Gig workers are freelancers, independent contractors, on-call workers, and temporary employees. Organizations use gig workers to fill gaps or provide specialist skills and knowledge on a project basis. The gig economy has been steadily growing, especially since the pandemic. It’s estimated there are 57 million gig workers in the US.
